Torquay Primary School is a dynamic and exciting school situated in a coastal community of approximately 6000 people. Both community and school (650) population are growing steadily. Students are drawn from Torquay, Jan Juc and surrounding rural areas.
Torquay Primary School is committed to the achievement of excellence and the enhancement of educational opportunities for all students. The student’s attainment of literacy, numeracy, social, physical, scientific and creative skills is the focus of our teaching and learning. The school provides all students with a range of learning experiences which:
promote excellence
assist students to improve and value their own learning
develop self esteem, confidence, independence and citizenship
acknowledge the importance of diversity
offer a safe, caring, supportive environment.
The school has strong and pro-active links with the Torquay community. Parents are actively encouraged to participate in all school activities, which include School Council, Parents’ and Citizens’ Association, classroom support, camps and excursions, sport and physical education, and Easter Fete. A liaison teacher promotes this interaction within the community.
Torquay Primary School is structured around multi-age grouping. It offers a comprehensive curriculum based on the Department of Education Curriculum Standards Framework in all eight Key Learning Areas, plus an integrated approach to provide balance and breadth in the areas of Science, Technology, Studies of Society and the Environment, Health and Physical Education, Language Other Than English (Indonesian) and the Arts.
